  2. i use AVG free. i use it on 2 laptops and a desktop and i haven’t had any viruses since downloading.

  3. I like AVG free…it always seems to work great, as long as you have it set to update daily…
    Although I must add that if you go this route, you will need a spyware program (I use a free program called Malwarebytes Anti-malware), to take care of the spyware detection and removal, as AVG Free doesnt do this…also, I run a third program called Windows Defender, for extra protection ( I believe its included in Windows 7).. With these three programs, I’ve run XP on my netbook for almost a year and had no problems…

  4. It depends on what you’re looking for really. In my book there are 3 really good ones and almost everyone uses them. The first one is Avast Antivirus. Avast is really good because it’s pretty light and offers a lot. It has the conventional antivirus scanning and it also comes with protection which prevents them from getting into your computer. it also scans for malware and spyware as well as root so that your computer is protected on many ends. what like about this in particular is the active scanning, it will scan all of the internet pages you open before they load so that it can see how safe it is. this is relatively fast however it can be disabled if you don’t want it. it also features a gaming / silent mode so that when gaming all of the computers resources can go towards running the game and not the antivirus, i also use it for music/video editing. another option is avg antivirus, this is pretty much a conventional antivirus/antivirus prevention software that does scan for malware/spyware but has a lower detection rate for them, the virus detection rate is just as high as avast though. it doesn’t have root scanning which is a huge downside for some people but for others they don’t care, it depends on how you use your computer. the third is panda cloud antivirus. this is the lightest one out of the three. it features cloud technology which means it scans your laptop for viruses and other things from an internet database which means the resources on your computer that are used up are close to NONE. it’s extremely user friendly and very easy to use.. the only thing is you must have an active internet connection for this to work. if you don’t it will run from a cache of well known threats but the full benefit is with a net connection. personally i use panda because it’s very very light and i have a very light program i use seperately for mal/spyware and roots. all are excellent and all are relatively light

  5. I like Avast a very quick and easy to use freeware AV. You should use it in combination with Microsoft security essentials. I also have Malwarebytes for scanning.

    Here is a list from Cnet;
