Use daemon tools lite. It is free and easy to use. It will create a virtual CD drive that you can then mount an image of the disc to. You will be able to view the files on the disc image just as if you had put a real Cd inside of your real drive. You can also make more than one drive if you need more disc images mounted at the same time.
The problem is if the game is protected by securom, it will know that it is not the real CD. One way that works sometimes to get around this, is when you make an image of the disc. Choose the image to be a .mdx instead of a .iso. this worked for me on both oblivion and dragon age.

MagicDisc is a simple and effective software to mount iso images etc.
I just want to say though. Sounds like your getting AOE 3 from some website. Mounting the image would install the game, but he won’t be able to play w.o a crack. Even then he would only be able to play offline because a cracked version doesn’t have online capabilities.
