The Great Shelley Winters – married to Ernest Borgnine for one night! lol.
Great movie.

You know it’s good acting when music isn’t even needed to set a mood. It’s
all in how they pitch their voice and their emotions. Brava, Bette Davis,
Shelley Winters, Beatrice Straight (who I recognize from the first
Poltergeist btw) etc.!

WTF, also starring Better Davis?
But Shelley Winters is billed above HER? – – – WHEW! what was going on in
her career at this time, bad scripts, politics, passed off the studio,
money problems?

I love the old black and white movies, especially “film noir”. No sex, no
special effects, just plain old superb acting. What a great movie!
joanne gerard November 11, 2014

Octavia Pratt November 11, 2014
I’m new to this B&W film thing, and 20 minutes into this film, I’m trying
to figure out if this is about a fear of flying…sheesh.

This is not film noir, though. The distinction is important. This is the
beginning of melodrama. Moralistic, contemplative, and philosophical. It’s
splendid and of a very relevant canon today. After this I would recommend
The Big Knife as far as a heavy dialogue/plot as subtext as opposed to the
garish representations of “Drama” that would follow.

Bette Davis was my favourite actress. RIP sweetheart xxx
Abby Titus November 11, 2014
Bette nails her part; a perfect way to wrap up the film.
David Wheaton November 11, 2014
At the tme this movie was made Gary Merril was married to Bette Davis,
unfortunately he was an alcoholic and Bette drank to keep him company and
became an alcoholic herself. They had a tempestuous married life and
eventually got divorced.

Wow, this was much better than I thought it would be, even if Bette’s
scenes were not until toward the end. Well worth the wait. They just don’t
make films like this anymore.
