    I have to recommend MSE, (from Microsoft) its free and gives you full protection, ie the one program does it all, you don’t need to download a separate firewall, antivirus and antispyware, it has great detection rates too.

    You need 1 firewall, 1 anti-virus & several anti-spyware programs.

    Here’s trusted, free anti-virus programs (only use 1 at a time):
    ♠ avast! Free Antivirus http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download
    ♠ Avira AntiVir http://www.free-av.com
    ♠ Panda Cloud AntiVirus http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/
    ♠ Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials
    ♠ AVG AntiVirus http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage
    Any of these will serve you well.

    Here’s trusted, free anti-spyware programs (use at least two):
    ♠ Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
    ♠ Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
    ♠ SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com
    ♠ Malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/index.php
    ♠ a-squared http://download.cnet.com/A-squared-Free/3000-8022_4-10262215.html?tag=mncol;rbxcrdl1
    Always update before running a scan.

    If the computer has Windows 7, the firewall that’s included is OK to use. If it’s Vista, use one of these trusted, free firewalls:
    ♠ ZoneAlarm http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm
    ♠ Comodo http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com
    ♠ Outpost http://free.agnitum.com
    If you choose Comodo, disable the anti-virus that comes with it. You never want 2 anti-virus programs, plus it’s not very good, but the firewall is excellent.

    If you choose Microsoft Security Essentials as your anti-virus, it includes an anti-spyware, so you only need to add 1 more.
