McAfee, AVG, and Norton all suck; they’re best just avoided.
BUT, you’re confusing anti-virus and firewalls. You already have a firewall on your router (most likely), and another on your computer will be good, but since you have one firewall, the best things to get next are: a) a reliable web browser; and b) reliable anti-virus (in that order).
For a web browser, firefox is your best bet. IE lets tons of viruses onto computers. http://getfirefox.com
I used commodo firewall before and i liked it. It is free. Presently I am only using windows default firewall. They have antivirus too. I haven’t tried their antivirus. I use AVG.

For anti-virus, Kaspersky, NOD-32, and Avira are the only real options. Avira is available free, here: http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus
