  1. I have been quite happy with my free setup. I use Avast now, I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

  2. Hi
i think you would like Ad_ware They do have a free version, a paid also. The free just has some disabled features that you wont need right away. The paid is inexpensive and both are good.

  3. you can go for free software, nothing wrong with that…. just make sure you get everything you need to protect your pc…. Best free antivirus, AVG….. I tend to recommend AVG a lot because it did what others, including paid versions failed to…… Firewall, Comodo ofcourse…… It doesn’t slow your pc down and does its job….. Now Antispyware…… tough to find free one, but recommended paid for version is Xoftspy Antispyware….. Fast, but thorough…. but if you dont want to go through all that, then just go to http://www.faronics.com, and purchase deep freeze. It’ll freeze your hard drive and won’t allow any changes to anything so you won’t ever have to worry about anything from spyware, viruses, worms, trojans, rootkits, nothing….. Worth it, just make sure your system’s clean first though……. hope this helps….

  4. Do this on-line scan first : http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/
only if you might be worried that you could be infected now.

then go and get avast for full time protection,
you can not get a better anti virus system for free.
it has many features you will have to pay for in other systems.

    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

don’t forget to register or you will only have it for 60 days
by registering you will get a licence for a full year.
just re-register at the end of the year to get another one year licence.

if you do not like the look of Avast
then microsoft supply a system for free..

    Microsoft Security Essentials : http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

if you feel you would be even safer with a firewall also then
try this one it’s also free and it has no conflicts with avast

The big problem with PC Magazine’s website is all the Vibrant pop-up ads. Everyone is annoyed by them, but the website won’t stop using them. With that warning, I give you some articles to read:

  6. I’m hoping, as a new person here, to get ‘Best Answer”… so, I’m offering up my best answer:

According to Consumer Reports (CR) Magazine:

    http://www.free-av.com

Choose the FREE Avira download, and ignore all the other marketing blurbs. According to CR, with free downloads, you often will get ‘hit-up’ to pay for an ‘upgrade.’ CR stated this free version actually beat out the most expensive ‘buy’ program available.

However, this Avira free program is a stand-alone, not a security suite. CR stated in the article that with ALL 3 of these free downloads they recommend, you do NOT need to do the upgrades. The free stand-alone program is ALL you need. So, just skip those offers to upgrade. Download AVIRA, and scan your computer for VIRUSES. To get your own free security suite, just download the free three:

    AVIRA: http://www.free-av.com
    Microsoft Defender: http://www.microsoft.com/defender
    http://www.spamfighter.com/download.download.asp

The reminder CR emphasized is that you need to treat them as if they’re a Security Suite, and go through 3 different steps. That’s the only downside… they’re stand-alone programs. However, put together, these 3 ranked highest and ‘best’ – even above the pay for programs you can buy.
