usable touch screens were also already made in beginning of 2000s but it takes time for price to go down and tech to improve to actually be usable. That’s why people say ”oh, driverless cars were there already in 2000, I read about them”. Yeah sure they were there but they could barely navigate one obstacle…
Ten years before usable GPS just as a separate function in your mobile phone would be science fiction…

That can be a frustrating problem. Have you tried Office Live Workspace? It is a great resource that lets you save important files in the cloud, rather than to hardware. You can access, edit, and share your files from any computer with an internet connection, and you get 5GB for free! Since you save everything in the cloud, you never have to worry about your flash drive breaking, getting lost, or malfunctioning.
