This movie is much better than I had expected. Van Damme movies involve a
lot of violence where the violence is simply success of the good guys’
violence over the bad guys’ violence. In this movie the violence is not so
gratuitous… in a complicated way it shows how violence can be necessary,
but is ultimately NOT *human*.
Unfortunately, it does not project the one proper alternative. The only way
for men to interact is by reason and trade, to mutual benefit. That
requires a morality of mutual respect, never presuming another person’s
life, liberty, property or happiness exists for your benefit.
Put another way, every person must have the selfish right to his own life,
liberty, property and happiness. Contrary to
Leftist/Socialist/Progressive/Democratic principles no man, elected to any
position, has any right to interfere with the life, liberty, property or
happiness of any other man. Period.
Sadly, Hollywood’s defenders of freedom do not grasp that. They only see
the enemy as those who would use violence *within* the system, not grasping
when the system uses violence upon them… try not paying your taxes, not
responding to a court order, and resisting the inevitable arrest. Their
guns DO point at YOU!
