  1. Microsoft Office has never come with Windows but I do understand the confusion. For the longest time, new PCs came with an advertisement supported version called Office Starter which came with Word and Excel. That program has ended and now new computers only get a trial version.

So, yes, if you need a copy of Office then you’ll have to buy one. You can buy it though the trial or probably find a less expensive boxed copy from Amazon or another online retailer.

  2. That’s normal, there are no activated MS Office Suites other than 30 day trials installed on a new Notebook. Use the trial for a month.
Using W8, you have MS Hotmail account → Use Skydrive → go to the MS Office website and sign in

  3. There is no full free version avaliable for MS Office. But, with my newly bought laptop, I found Ms office basic where word and spreadsheet is availble. To get this, open your office program, then select office basic…. its for 2010…

But for office 365 ive no idea

  4. Microsoft Office is not a free program. It does not come pre-installed on any new computer/laptop except as a free trial. If you want it, you will have to buy it.

Office 2010 has been discontinued. The most current desktop version is Office 2013 and the cloud version is Office 365.

You have a couple of alternatives (if you aren’t going to buy it):

    1) you can use the online version of Office. Microsoft, in conjuction with Sky Drive, provides this free of charge. Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are there. All you need is a microsoft account to log in and use it and anybody can create an account. That is here:

    2) Install a free generic version of Office. There are several out there and all are pretty much the same. In terms of functionality, the best I’ve seen is Libre Office. Libre Office has an entire suite of programs that with edit or create any Excel, Word, Powerpoint or Access file. That is here:

  5. I don’t suggest buying a copy because they bunch of money when there are tons of free alternatives.
