You could talk to your DSL provider and see if they can offer you anything. Most likely you will have to pay for another DSL line. However, there is one option, you can go to any computer store like Best Buy and buy a separate DSL modem, and connect that one directly to your computer with the DSL filter on the phone line.

Yes you would be correct in assuming you would need a completely new line and phone line.
Here: DSL is horribad to begin with. Many things can be affecting it. You may think its your own family’s fault but its prob not. Peak traffic times depending on how far you are from your isp will destory your connection. So getting a new line does not necessarily mean that it would solve your lag issues.
Personal thoughts: I think some information has been left out. Perhaps you have a sibling that likes to download things using torrents or limewire or other programs of the sich. The problem is not the downloading, so dont get mad at them for that. The problem is that they have uploading turned on… this destroys internet connections.
You must find the culprit and stop their uploading madness frenzie.

You need another phone line to get the second DSL line. May be you might be better off upgrading the existing DSL for a better speed then getting the second one.
