  1. I am fairly sure that data will stay on the flash drive for ever, until you delete, lose, or break it. I have not, however, tried to keep data on a flash drive for that long, so I don’t know.

  2. first of all my friend when you scan the images are pretty big for there size so i’d suggest an external hard drive, as for usb’s depending on the brand and quality of it. i had have like 7 usb’s and only 2 work because they were cheap but to answer you question sometime the usb will crash or corrupt making all you work lost forever but i’d say buy a external hard drive there more reliable and have tonnes for space. i hope ive been helpful.

  3. The range is 8-10 years.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fst8IZup44c this series of videos mentions it briefly.

Now, he did state that that was if you didn’t hook the usb drive into the computer for 8-10 years. As plugging it back into the computer will make it check the status and hopefully error correct.

edit: found it, part 6/6 of that video series http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ylEiGEcKqN0#t=170s
So the reason everyone thinks that it lasts forever is because most haven’t had their pen drive for 10 years without using it.
