Wow, they even have a category for YouTube questions? Anyway, I think you pretty much answered your own question. You can post your own YouTube link instead of your friend’s. I have also seen people go to other people’s video pages and ask them to check out their videos. When making a video you can put lots of tags and people who search for those words will be able to see your videos in their searches. Hope that helps!

How I see it is, and I could be wrong. But.. A you tube video is obviously a movie. And how are movies promoted, by trailers. So promote your friends video by posting it on your website/myspace/facebook. Etc. The more its open to the public the easier it is to get views. Keeping it just on you tube. Is a long shot to get a lot of views only because there are so many other videos. So just upload the video on social websites and you should get more views. Or I at least hope so. Sorry if I’m wrong, but it at least sounds like its worth a try.

Another way to to catch the eye of one of the popular vbloggers on YouTube. Many of them will give shout outs to channels they enjoy.
You can try posting a video as a response to another popular video. This may help, but popular videos often get hundreds or thousands of video responses. So it’s very likely you’ll get lost in the shuffle.
If you make good quality videos, they should get high ratings. This will help them turn up highest rated lists.
I don’t know how well it will work, but you can also try including key words for commonly searched things – such as britney spears, sarah palin, etc.

These are a few key points that I use to get my Youtube videos seen:
1.) Make your video short, sharp and entertaining. Humour is always big on Youtube.
2.) You really need an interesting title that entices the viewer to watch your video. Catch their attention right from the beginning.
For eg. many of the popular videos feature words like, ‘Secret, scandal, just leaked, must watch… etc. ”
3.) The Thumbnail picture is very important – you need a good picture, not some boring or out of focus etc. It’s a good idea to place an interesting picture near the middle of the video, then you can choose it from the thumbnail options. Again, you want this to be enticing to your viewer, so they are intrigued, and decide to watch your video.
4.) The keywords/tags you choose for your video are very useful as they will show up when people search for videos. Words like funny, hilarious, crazy, comedy etc. are always popular. Otherwise, choose terms that relate to your video’s topic. For eg. if I were posting a video about online videos, I may use terms such as: web video, online video, video production, video editing, video camera etc.
So too, write a good catchy description for your video – and add more of your keywords here.
5.) Edit your videos – to make them look professional – consider adding some music (must be royalty free for copyright reasons), add titles/graphics, edit out the boring bits etc.
6.) Use the Youtube annotations feature near the end of the video giving your viewers a call to action – eg. “Subscribe to my videos” or “Rate my video” “Share my video on Stumbleupon” etc. You can also link to another one of your videos, so the viewer goes on to watch more of your clips.
7.) You can post your video as a ‘Video Response’ on another person’s video – my understanding is you can only post it as a video response once, so make sure you pick a popular video that is relevant to your video’s topic. This is like ‘piggybacking’ on someone else’s successful video.
8.) Ask your friends to rate your film, and to post comments on it. In the first 48 hours after you have posted a video, if you get a good number of ratings or comments, you may have your video featured or listed in the Honours Lists – therefore you are more likely to attract new viewers.
9.) On Youtube they have a Friends invite option – make friends with people in your similar area of interests – everytime you release a new video, message them to tell them to watch it, comment, rate it etc.
10.) Use social bookmarking techniques – beneath your Youtube video you will see a ‘Share this’ option – you can submit your video to Stumbleupon, Delicious, Reddit etc. One of my videos was submitted to Stumbleupon by one of my viewers and it received over 500 views in a couple of hours.
11.) Youtube is all about building community – make sure you watch other peoples videos too – rate them, add comments, subscribe to the ones you like. They are more likely to notice you and subscribe to your videos too, or leave comments for you. Build a loyal following of viewers who will watch your videos everytime you upload one. I have viewers from all over the world which I am in regular contact with.
