  1. Use AVG. I download things all the time and my computer works great and thats the program I use.

  2. make sure you uninstall Trend first

either Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast Home Edition are good

    and both are free!

  3. AVG is the best

  4. the free verison one

  5. Panda Cloud is fairly new and untested, I would avoid it.

For your Anti-Virus……I would suggest Avast, Avast now includes anti-virus, some anti-spyware capability and anti-rootkit components. And all for the low low price of free. You can get it here:

Avast 5 is kicking some serious keister!

(Always use only 1 A-V…You must NEVER use more than one anti-virus, Even an expired anti-virus can cause a major conflict… did I mention that you MUST uninstall any and all, old anti-virus products like your Trend?)

Avoid the anti-virus called AVG (free version). It is wildly popular with children and the computer illiterate but has historically had the lowest virus detection rate of all the popular free anti-virus programs.

  6. Avira and Avast are the best ones. Not avg, it has no root kit protection.

  7. Someone had recommended Avast and I would recommend it to anyone. It has been great and it is free. I do it as personal and residential but it can be used for bigger business and corporate also. Now of course you want to add the cadillac model or top of the line whatever, – – they did have packgages that had a price tag, but the free one has worked great for me. It lets you know, does scans, fixed your problems, and will let you know and keep you updated on anything going on with the antivirus company.

    AVAST ANTIVIRUS

  8. Yes, free anti-virus programs do work, as long as you get the right ones.

    I recommend Avira

I must warn you, the free addition of Avira anti-virus will ONLY protect against viruses. You WILL NEED to separately download both an anti-spyware and firewall.

  9. Use:

Avast 5 Antivirus, AVG is rather blah – It works alright but has nothing on Avast,

  10. Just personal opinion of course. I use Avast , I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly.

  11. i have two machine’s with panda cloud antivirus both are still working i have tested them at intellguardians and other test sites they have prov-en themselves to me or try Avira.com i have them in some of my machines for years love their product as always use spybot search & destroy and malwarebytes as extra scanners they do not hurt and will convince you that your choice was right i have heard that microsoft’s security essentials is getting good reviews…

  12. There is a new version of avast and it is great

try it …. it is much more lightweight than trend micro

  13. Do yourself a huge favor and stay away from free altogether. ALL free AV’s have there problems that no one ever seems besides me to want to tell about.

AVG free, Next to trend micro you can’t get much worse. AVG has no root kit protection, No Malware protection. That in it’s self makes it worthless.

Avast, No heuristics. Without it there are certain behaviors that Avast cannot detect. With out being able to detect certain behaviors your machine will be infected, Avast will not be able to detect it or remove it.

Avira, Full of false positives. It will cause you to delete files that you need. It will say they are bad when they are not.

Norton, Memory hog. Doesn’t do as well as advertised. McAfee is about the same. None of these have decent spyware detection. Most will tell you to download Malware bytes anti malware and super anti spyware. There both useless in the free versions because neither runs in real time. Malware bytes is actually a good program in the paid version. Both of these in the free versions for the most part, A infection will shut them down. Will not let them load or update. Useless.

If your gonna pay get the best to start with. Get Kaspersky internet security. It has it all and it works. Right now it’s about the only one doing as advertised. Get it, Keep your machine updated at the Microsoft update site. You will be infection free for a long, long time. Just make sure you have at least one gig of memory for XP and 2 gigs for Vista or Windows 7. Kaspersky will run smooth as silk. It PROTECTS. Not just DETECT AFTER your infected. Free Av’s make a mediocre attempt to clean your machine AFTER your infected. Most times, It’s to late then.

  14. You need 1 anti-virus, 1 firewall, and multiple anti-spyware programs. There are suites that contain all of them, but they tend to be weak in 1 or more areas.

There is nothing wrong with free security programs, Luthor’s predictable rant notwithstanding. Avira & Avast consistently rank at or near the top of the tests against the best paid anti-viruses.

  15. It’s good to be careful. However, I use AVG free (free.avg.com) on all my company computers. It’s a good program from a reliable source. It doesn’t hog resources like McAfee and Norton do. And it’s free. Avast is also good.
