  2. Oh, thank you for clearing it up. 🙂

  3. yes, they copy all the data onto disk/hard drives to ensure there is another copy somewhere.

  4. Physical medias?

  5. google backup their data onto physical medias, according to their gmail reps. I’d think all cloud services also have the same protection in place.

  6. Hi Dave, love the channel, great videos! 🙂 If you had to pick one, which would you pick?
*iPhone 5 or ”New iPhone” with iOS 6
*Samsung Galaxy SIII with Android : Jelly Bean
*Nokia Lumia 920 with Windows Phone 8

Thanks for the great videos 🙂

  7. Hi, Dave, really great video on cloud storage! Since you’re a Dropbox user, we’d be really interested in your thoughts on CX–we’re a safe and secure cloud storage service that gives users their first 10GB free. We focus on collaboration, with features such as groups, chat and social network sharing. We also recently launched our small business suite. If you have a chance to check us out, please let us know what you think! Thanks, Dave! (And P.S. Love your accent!)

  8. I use Google drive. 🙂

  9. I use Google drive. Works very well and I pay $60/year for 100GB.
Data transfer speeds will increase over time. Various vendors are testing 1gbit to the home and with LTE this become ubiquitous and easily accessible.
So I do believe there will be limited/small local cache in future machines (laptops) but applications and services and storage will be cloud based.
After all, when was the last time you tried working without an Internet connection (note, I said working) – you could type a doc

  10. But doesn’t cloud storage itself use hard drives too? What happens if they go wrong?

  11. Great videos Dave!! Just wanted to know where is the best place to learn videography online? Or is it better to just start recording straight away and learn like that?

    Thabks

  12. On average, 3 years is the longest you should expect a drive to remain reliable. Google did a study. Just do a regular backup to a local USB drive and it’s not a problem.

  13. Hi dave fantastic videos! Thank you! How many hard drive failures have had and how long does it take an average hard drive to fail.

  14. Interesting and useful video as usual. Using like you dropbox, but use logmein and icloud in a limited way eg app syncing across ipads for business use. Question : do you think windows 8 in its various guises – phone, tablet and PC will recapture market share from other platforms and is it going to put Microsoft back on track ?

  15. Thank you for the Cloud recap! Good on ‘ya, mate! Slightly off topic, but because it is in the Tech-News, today … just wanted to mention that I’m looking forward to your Review AND Comparison of the Nexus-7 to the “new” and comparable Kindle(s) that just were announced today! Cheers!

  16. I use cloud storage primarily for contacts phone numbers/emails/home addresses /encoded banks details / photo stream.

  17. @animationcreations42 They’re coasters/mats for drinks.

  18. what are them things that have omg lol wtf and lmao on

  19. Take over? No. But im a student and sometimes its useful for me. I put some notes in it and share with my friends sometimes. Quite nice option if u have few devices like me. At school when u need to check sth quickly u just open the cloud and u have all notes on ipad or phone. 😉

  20. Isn’t cloud storage on a hard drive as well so it will fail or do they have multiple copies?

  21. At 1 point in time I do use my NAS to do my own cloud storage. But it take quite a bit of configuration and maintainence. I ended up using dropbox again.
Perhaps you can share how to do a NAS storage in the future

  22. Thinking logicically though Dave how often do you touch all of that data? surely 2-3 weeks is acceptable to get it back because as you say the stuff you need first can be retrieved first?

I bet a lot those files you’ve backed up aren’t touched from one week to the next.

  23. Many thanks for watching 😀

  24. Awesome video mate! And yes I’m 1st :D
