Cheap Cloud Storage – How to Find the Possibility of Online Storage

  1. No they won’t. Just make sure all your documents are in the Cloud first.

Programs will have to be reinstalled, as you can’t copy them. So Make sure you have the Original disks or the installation file.

Drivers will also have to be reinstalled.

  2. if you already synced it, your stuff is already on another hard drive in some place so even if you do lose all your stuff on your hard drive you will still have it in a data server somewere.

  3. In my opinion the best assurance is to have REDUNDANT Backups! In plain English, make certain that a second copy of all files are saved to an External Hard Drive(or Disc DVD or CD-R) AND IN THE Cloud. In this way you will know with absolute certainty if something happens to your ability access the Cloud Based Duplicates–you can always just plug in the External Hard Drive and copy files to the reformatted hard drive. The problem with solely Cloud Based storage is access lost due to a forgotten password or unpaid account or the Cloud Server going down–you would be lost.

As a previous answer stated; once you erase(format)the hard drive all files on it will be destroyed. Upon reinstalling the Operating System; System Files will be restored but Third Party Files, games, editing software and etc must be reinstalled from disc. If you’re using a Linux OS this is somewhat mitigated as Linux comes with certain extra files as part of the OS(such as Spider Oak or Ubuntu One) and upon reinstalling the Operating System those extras including Drivers would be replaced. If it is Windows–then as yet another person indicated; certain Drivers will also have to be reinstalled from disc or an Online source.

Generally speaking-you have nothing to worry about if saving solely in the Cloud. I am just presenting a dire but possible “what if” scenario. In fact I take my own advice regarding this issue.

    Good Luck with the reformat.
