Wow. This is sooooooo wrong. The way the NEXT plan works is you take the
retail cost of the phone and divide it by 20. Example GS4 = 620$. So you
take 620/20. You pay 31$ a month. At the 12 month mark you would have paid
only 372$ dollars. If you chose to upgrade at the twelve month mark, then
yes, you do have to give the phone back, you haven’t paid it off. However,
you have the option to pay the balance in full at any time and at the next
upgrade you get to keep the device instead of handing it in. Similar to
leasing a car. If you make it to the 20 month mark then the phone is yours
and you are free to do whatever you wants with it.
The advantage to the NEXT plan is that if you switch carriers or phones
frequently, you are forgoing any Early Termination Fees for breaking your
contract and any fees associated with upgrading. Also, if you decide to get
a new phone a year into a 2 year contract you then have to pay FULL RETAIL
for the new phone and that’s on top of whatever the subsidized cost you
paid to get the first phone.
Also, I have no idea what extra monthly fee you are talking about with the
2 year contract that also apparently applies to the NEXT upgrade. The only
fees associated with a 2 year contract is the one time upgrade fee the
month of the upgrade.
Clearly, you are very biased against AT&T, and it doesn’t seem like you
gathered your information with an open mind. You went into it with the
mindset that AT&T was absolutely scamming people and that’s the information
you presented. Try to actually be unbiased next time.

You are not accurate in your portrayal of the at&t next program. I would do
some more research.

Sophie Doll August 19, 2014
Great review! I WILL NOT be going to AT&T. I honestly was going to change.
I’ll try and go over to T-Mobile.

terp242001 August 19, 2014
This is completely wrong on how AT&T Next works dude…the only reason you
would do this is if you want to upgrade your phone every year. I don’t
understand why you think its such a bad deal IF you are a person that likes
to always have the latest phone?
yomiko55 August 19, 2014
Here’s the thing with the AT&T next, if you have an existing contract you
can not get AT&T next, you have to wait for your old contract to be up that
means. If you have 6 months or 2years left you got to wait. AT&T NEXT is
just another type of contract and not a very good one.In other words don’t
even bother with AT&T NEXT just wait for your contract to be up and upgrade

I was going to get the iPhone 5c with AT&T next but now getting it with
t-mobile
EH to tha OV August 19, 2014
I think this information is incorrect with the AT&T Next. The only fees you
pay are for the phone. Ex: Iphone 5s 16GB $27 for 20 months = $540. Thats
all you pay. If you decide to upgrade again after month 12 then the money
you put into the plan ($27/12) is applied to the “NEXT” phone. no other
fees associated.

thanks for the info, very entertaining. not to sound like a att fanboy, but
I switch phones every six months or so, and sell my old phones on ebay, and
they charge me a percentage for selling. so in a sense I see it as more of
leasing a phone and always having new tech in my hands. Tech moves so fast
that a 2yr old phone is worth almost nothing. So I think for people like me
who switch phones a lot may benefit this. But I will not be using att next.
VLC,GOT,FD, are awesome BOOSH!
Andre Campbell August 19, 2014
Good work…just glancing at the next plan I knew it was really a rip off,
now you broke it down, im to investigate the numbers further…

Yeah, they totally are ripping people off. That’s the problem with BIG
companies like this. They don’t have much competition so they do whatever
they want.

Ohhhh no no no no, you most certainly don’t get to keep the phone with
T-Mobile Jump. From their website – “Deductible will apply if traded-in
device is lost/stolen, not in good working order, does not power on, or has
liquid damage or broken screen.”
