most of them are scams, they ask you to put in you email so that they can send you junk mail, however there are a few web sites that you can win things online.

those things are fake. they say you get it for free after you complete “offers” which consist of a whole bunch of crap. it usually starts with “silver offers” which are 2-3 cheap things..”gold offers” are next you need to do 2-3 of them which are usually still fairly cheap..then last page is something like “platinum offers” where they require you to do 4 expensive things like get a credit card, install satellite TV in your home, sign up for some service and keep it for 6 months etc etc…
you’d end up spending more doing this dumb crap than if you actually just took the money you would use and go BUY the “free prize” lol such a scam :/
