  2. at the moment Norton Internet Security 2010 or 2011, I have used Norton’s since 2000 and it hasn’t failed me yet. I use NIS 2010. Cheap in shop $ 66 AUD 3 user key . Good price as I paid $ 100AUD on net?

  3. If you are using Windows XP, Windows VISTA, or WIndows 7, just get Microsoft’s Security Essentials. It works Great and it’s 100% Free. I’ve been using it since windows 7 Came out, No Problems at all but if you have money burning a hole in your Pocket, The Buy Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Those are the only 2 Product I use and no Problems at all.

  4. The best protection is to use an operating system other than Windows, unless you play games or need applications that are only available for Windows. Even then, you might be able to run Windows in a virtual machine.

  5. “The best” Antivirus depends on what you want. Alot of antivirus programs will really slow down your computer, but they offer alot of options and services. Some antivirus programs don’t have as many features but run faster and wont slow your computer down as much.

And then of course there’s the price. High priced programs don’t often actually perform better than lower priced or free programs. The main difference is brand name and the amount of support or customer service offered by the company.

Personally, I don’t use antivirus software. I just make regular backups of my system, and be careful with how I use the internet.

All that being said, I would recommend either nod32 or Microsoft security essentials. Nod32 is highly recommended by many people in the tech industry, and Microsoft security essentials offers pretty good protection without slowing down your system. There’s also a portable application called Clamwin. It’s very basic, but it only runs when you tell it to which is good if you have a slow computer or if your going for effeciency.

  6. You’ll get a different opinion from everyone. Already have, I see. I have used Norton Internet Security on multiple machines I believe starting with the 2003 version, and getting the next year’s edition every time my subscription was set to expire. So far, knock on wood, no virus has ever been allowed to infect my computer, though I have downloaded many infected files and visited many web sites that have tried to infect the machines. As long as that streak continues, I’ll continue to buy Norton. It’s on the more expensive end, but they allow you to install it on 3 systems simultaneously, which is nice if you have a home PC as well as a laptop, and you can share the third code with a family member or friend if you don’t don’t have three PCs.

McAfee is also very popular, and also expensive. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Avast and the PC magazines and online reviews seem to like Kaspersky more and more. McAfee and Norton are the only two I have personal experience with, and my recommendation based on that is to choose Norton, but any of the suites will protect your computer if you install and use them correctly, and keep them updated.

    Buy.com has the 3-user 2010 edition for $ 34 right now:

    http://www.buy.com/prod/norton-internet-security-2010-3-pcs/q/loc/105/211970497.html?listingid=-1

And they have the 3-user 2011 edition for $ 49:

    http://www.buy.com/prod/norton-internet-security-2011-1-user-3pc/q/loc/105/217126307.html?listingid=-1

That’s cheaper than you’ll find if you walk into a store, where it’s usually either $ 70 or $ 80 plus tax.

  7. There are only two that I install on computers.

    1. Microsoft Security Essentials because who know better than Microsoft how to protect a computer. After installing update it. It is a combination Anti Virus and Malware scanning program.

    2. Clam Anti Virus for Windows, they have 32 bit and 64 bit versions and it is powered by Immunet and connected with Cloud Computing. Use the Free versions. You may not like it because it scans everything leaving the computer and everything coming down on the computer. If you are more concerned about speed and not the security of the computer, I wouldn’t install it.

I don’t use any other programs that are suggested.

  8. You are. Your behavior online is the best defense. Otherwise, start with “Microsoft Security Essentials” for the best free option, and “NOD32” (www.eset.com) for the best paid option.
