Whos uses Windows 8? Companies in are still migrating to Windows 7, you
also don’t noticed if you have a MCITP its the same as a MCSA.

Sorry, incorrect information. Anything you say opposite to what I comment
below, I can counter. Let’s start with 100% real facts. I’ve been working
on computers before “NT” certifications. Certifications were made to make
more $$$money$$ from software and hardware OEM companies. CompTIA A+ is
“the best” and “most important” cert to have. The reason why, is the
majority of of people who study and gain M.S. certs, don’t have 1/10th, of
the troubleshooting skills needed in their jobs. Even years afterwards, and
I see that on a continual basis. Even people that have so called “high
level certifications” can’t troubleshoot and repair hardware and even
software issues, because they do not have the mindset of a tech. Not just
desktop computers either, I’m talking about KVM’s, servers, laptops, ect.
Anything on large enterprise environments. After working for over 20+ years
in I.T., no matter what fields I work in, having that great hardware /
software experience gained from both real world, and CompTIA A+, I continue
to use. Your video sets up new I.T. folks to fail, right off the bat
saying to go with a M.S. cert. Also, your comments about Linux is 100%
wrong. The majority of LAN environments use virtual servers now, whats is
the base OS of say VMWare? How about Cisco routers and switches which 99%
of the LAN’s / WAN’s run on? Based off of Linux… not to mention security
appliances. Lastly, certs like M.S., should not “expire” and then disappear
/ retire and you know there is “a lot” of M.S. certs that people studied
hard for (and paid good money for), only to not have them “valid” anymore.
After you get a cert, you should be certified, that’s it! It is up to the
individual to learn and study on their own time to pick up new
technologies, not “pay” an OEM again just to learn something new, that the
individual themselves can learn on there own time, with “zero” money spent.

Seriously just lost any respect I had for you as an IT Professional. I
spent a number of years as a microsoft support tech and have now moved into
the Linux/Unix realm. To hear a so called IT professional say that Linux
does not need maintenance shows a major ignorance. Do not try and talk
with authority on a subject that you clearly do not have a clue about. It
takes much more knowledge to run and maintain a Linux server environment
than a Windows environment, and as someone who has worked in both fields, I
CAN talk with authority on this.

I wanna get into computer repair and own my own repair shop. What
certifications would you recommend, besides a computer repair one?
Young Uno August 14, 2014
Hi Eli, since I have school, I am not able to catch this show live. I would
like to ask you something and I hope you read these comments. I am a senior
in high school and I am taking free community college classes on CCNA/Net+
(using network academy) prep and A+ class for the cert. From here on out, I
plan on going to a 4 year college for IT and Comp Sci degree if I get good
scholarships. If not, I am just going to a community college, get my
associates, get some introductory certs while searching for jobs. Then see
if I should go for the 4 year degree or not. What do you think of this
plan? Is there anywhere you think I could “think” better or anywhere my
plans have flaws? Thank you very much Eli!
shultman37 August 14, 2014
Friend could I even invest in a comptia certification?
Monsieur Africain August 14, 2014
Why should CCNA’s be scared? They deal a lot with many routers and
switches, then there are also CCNA specializations such as security, voice,
video, wireless, etc.
dapras August 14, 2014
Listen to him guys…..I wasted 6 years of my IT career with this Wishing I
started Server track. I would be so far ahead in my goals now ..Start with
MCSA server 2012 get a good job finish with you MCSE cloud or whatever you
need..Paralleling it with VMware.

I guess linux fan boys need to understand 1 thing, big coorperations,
global ones they run Windows, smaller organizations more focus on Linux
(because of the cheap labor force of IT guys) the best way is to use both
wherever they are most powerfull
Taemaxsu Kazianus August 14, 2014
Very insightful
Dave Wilson August 14, 2014
You dont need to buy 4 or 5 computers to train for your certs. Use virtual
box! Its free….
Carter Baker August 14, 2014
One word of advice take a small class at college that has dream spark, and
you will get all kinds of free software. The new Dreamspark offers 8.1
Embedded , Server 2012 data center and Enterprise editions.
Terry L Jones Jr August 14, 2014
Thanks Eli,
Great advice and insight! Looks like the Linux boys are a little upset with
you, but in looking at their comments, it seems that they didn’t really
“hear” what you said.
Carter Baker August 14, 2014
I got burned by the MCPS switch over. Seems they change their
certifications monthly .
Carter Baker August 14, 2014
I remember CCIE in 97, would get you 200 and hour contract work.
Issa Zihalirwa August 14, 2014
i am MCSA in Windows Server 2012, im going to take the MCSE in Private
Cloud
Jesus Paras August 14, 2014
under the MS server cert path they list MTA first. Is this necessary bf
attacking the MCSA Server 2012?

Which one is generally harder, Cisco’s or Microsoft? I am about to become a
CCNP but have no Microsoft certs.
Juan Arango August 14, 2014
Eli.big fan of your videos. you tell it like it is no beating behind the
bush.
thanks for the advice on the College 4 year degree vs Microsoft do it
yourself.
I was killing my self on college algebra and going thru courses that had
nothing to do with Microsoft or Networking.
I am finally on my way with Microsoft and Cisco self teaching. those are
the meats and potatoes.
thanks again.

Q.
I’m on the verge of completing my Cisco CCNA and I’m just looking for some
advice, is it worth studying further for a CCNP (for example), or to simply
start applying for jobs out in the field, gaining further experience that
way?
Any recommendations ?
Kami bozorgdel August 14, 2014
it’s fun watching you talking…Like your energetic way of explaining
although I don’t agree with some of the points you made (about Linux
stuff).
Rhodair Aurelien August 14, 2014
So glad that one dude asked the question whether to get a MS Cert if
pursuing programming because I watched all the way to 1:21:32 thinking this
whole video is immensely interesting but he’s mostly focusing on servers
and would any cert apply to me as an aspiring programmer? Answer is no :P
