save the files you need somewhere else then rename your hard drive. By renaming it it will totally wipe everything off of it and you can start from scratch

First of all, deleting chdksk was a bad idea. If you don’t know what a file does, don’t just delete it. Chkdsk is a good file.
Next, make sure your anti-virus programs are up to date and run a full sweep of your computer. Bad stuff like that can really slow you down.
Next, check what extra programs you have running that you don’t need. Look in the bottom right corner for extra stuff that is running that you don’t need all the time. Ex. Weather Bug, Messenger programs.
Also, I don’t know how much RAM you have, but you can check by clicking Start, right clicking My Computer, then click properties and a box will tell you how much RAM you have and your processor speed. If you have less than 1GB you might want to look into upgrading your RAM.
That’s a start for ya. I wouldn’t trust all the online programs. You don’t know what they will do to your computer.

I’ve had the same problem with my computer, because I love to downloaded a lot of music. I did the following:
Download a program called “Advanced System Care” it can be downloaded at the following link from “Download.com”: http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare-Free/3000-2086_4-10407614.html
Download it, Install it then open it up.
Perform a full scan by clicking the Middle Button surrounded by 4 other buttons. Then when the scan is COMPLETE, click “Repair” and it should repair and increase your computer’s performance. Trust me it works.
Hope it helps!

There are a few applications I would recommend. Download and install CCleaner, which will remove temporary files, and unneeded files from your computer. Also, download and install Ad-aware or Spybot to check for malware/spyware that might be on your computer.
Another thing you can do is go to Start > Run > type Msconfig and hit enter.
At that window you can go to the Startup tab and look for applications that are starting up that you might not want to start up automatically. Things such as adobe reader, java updates, or other apps.
There are dozens of good applications that can be found to help clean your computer. I recommend going to http://www.filehippo.com. There you can find Ad-aware, Spybot, CCleaner, and many other applications that you can use.

Use Disc Clean-up utility: Start /All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disc Clean-up.
Just for your information: Check Disc utility is looking for errors on hard drive disc and automatically fixes them. Now, after removing Check Disc at some point
you will have to reinstall Windows.

Hello, what operating system are you using; XP, 98, 2000?
First, click start and where it says Run, type msconfig.
If that works, select tab “Startup”. If there is alot of files checked, that can cause slowness on your machine. What you need to do is determine what those programs are and uncheck them. If you are not sure, just type what you see.
The startup is where alot of programs automatically start up everytime your computer is turned on. I would not uncheck an anti-virus program you might have running. If you don’t have one, go to avg.com or download.com for alot of nice applications.
Since you deleted chkdsk.exe which is a Windows system file, you better get some one to help you before you render your computer totally useless.
There are many reasons a computer will slow down.

The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.

First, backup all your data to an external medium.
Then, if you have no hardware problems, do this:
(1) Run a FULL anti-virus scan with a good virus scanner. Get free editions of Avast or Antivir. Use the latest virus definitions file. But don’t install or run more than one anti-virus at the same time. http://www.avast.com http://www.avira.com
(5b) Run a thorough disk defrag. Use a good defragmenter for this, and also run a boot-time defrag to fix the MFT and page file if they are fragmented. Check out Diskeeper 2009, which is widely acknowledged to be the best defragger around. Their website has free 30-day trial versions. http://www.diskeeper.com
(6) Disable unnecessary background processes and services that take up memory.
(7) Make sure all the hardware components have the latest and most stable drivers. Video card performance in particular is strongly dependent on drivers.
You do not need to clean out the registry or mess with the registry in ANY way whatsoever. Deleting a wrong key from the registry can damage your operating system.
Good Luck!

A registry cleaner is a type of software utility designed for the Microsoft Windows operating system whose purpose is to remove redundant or unwanted items from the Windows registry. However the necessity and usefulness of registry cleaners is a controversial topic, with experts not agreeing on their benefit. The problem is further clouded by the fact that malware and scareware is often associated with utilities of this type.
