  1. This is a new technology which is evolving. Some companies have
    introduced security software which is also being checked and tested.
    If you have a blog and nothing secret and are taking a regular backup,
    you can utilize Cloud technology.

    Advantages:
    ===========

    1. Files are stored offsite (generally at a secured Data Center). Therefore if your house caught on fire or your computer gets stolen, you can still retrieve your data and all you need to do is just redownload it.

    2. Cloud providers have redundancy on their drives. This means your data is stored on a RAID setup across multiple disks which means if one hard drive fails, the data is still safe as it’s copied across multiple drives

    3. Cloud storage have their servers and disks stored at a Data Center which means the servers have redundant power and internet so there is very little risk of fire or thief of that data.

    4. Save time/Convenience as the client software will automatically backup changes for you (ie: new files, deletion of old files are done automatically)

    5. Not as risky as a single hard drive backup. A hard drive can die or go faulty suddenly without warning due to spinning parts and over time wear and tear. This means your data will be lost.

    6. Backup to CD/DVD is manual and prone to being scratched and not readable if not stored properly.

    ===========
    Disadvantages:
    ===========

    1. Cost. Some cost money and some provide online storage for free but with certain amount of storage. CX provides 10GBS of free online storage (http://thisishelpful.com/10gbs-free-online-storage.html ), Skydrive (https://skydrive.live.com/ ) and Amazon Cloud Drive (https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/learnmore ) both provide 5GBs of free online storage.

    2. Potential that the company you sign up with closes or goes under and you’ve lost your backup. So make sure you sign up with a reputable company.

    3. Potential that your account gets hacked so a hacker could access your file. Just make sure you have a good password. If someone hacks into your computer, your data is lost regardless if it’s stored online or not as they have access to local data on your computer anyway.

    4. Potential that someone hacks into the Online Storage company so your data is accessed by the hacker

    5. You need an internet connection to backup your files or access the online backed up file. So if your internet is disconnected, you have no access to your backed up files. But remember they are only for backup purposes anyway so once your internet is back up and running, the client will send the updates of changes files to the cloud company anyway.

    6. Backups to cloud storage can be slow depending on your internet connection.

    7. Data Usage. If you have a lot of data but on an internet connection with limited data allocation per month (for example, your internet company only provides you with 30 GBs of data transfer per month), you could use up all your data allocation with your internet provider so it could cost you most if you go over that allocation.

    Hope that helps answer your question.
